Bell & Ross has released some teasers on three of its new watches built for literally the high fliers. Taking inspiration from the skies, the machines that enable us to reach there and other flying equipment. Scheduled to be unveiled at the Baselworld 2013, the new models being called Airspeed, Climb and Heading Indicator. This trio in conjunction with last year’s makes a total of six in the kitty of Bell & Ross Aviator Collection.
The Heading Indicator is designed centered around a flying device called a gyrocompass which helps to map an aircraft’s travel course during both manual flying and autopilot. The Airspeed is based around the anemometer, which measures an aircraft’s speed in relation to the air in which it is moving. And the Climb is inspired by an instrument called the variometer or a vertical speed indicator.
All of the Bell & Ross Aviation models are housed in cases that are 46 mm in diameter and finished with a matt black carbon PVD. B&R has tried to incorporate the look and feel of an instrumentation panel with the anti-glare and matt finish both designed to make the dials easier to read by eliminating glare. The hands and index marks are brushed with a white photo luminescent coating which when contrasted with the black of the dial, echoes the legibility found in professional aeronautical instruments. The Aviators are water-resistant to 100 meters.
Two of the Aviators – the Heading Indicator and Airspeed are powered by ETA 2892 automatic movements whereas the Climb, with its power-reserve and date functions, houses an ETA 2897. All the Aviators sport straps made up of rubber and heavy-duty synthetic fabric. The all new Aviation trio are set to be released in a limited edition of 999 pieces only. The first 99 of these will be released in a special collectors’ box that houses all the six models from 2012 and 2013 and has a striking resemblance to an aircraft control panel.
